Maria Alicia Becdach

Architect, Urban Consultant, and Academic​

As an architect, her main objective is to achieve harmony with the natural, urban, and social environment, placing the user at the center of her work.

As an urbanist, she believes in the compact and smart city as a way to safeguard natural resources within the context. She has worked on interventions in fragile ecosystems, the most notable being the Urban and Territorial Development Plan for the Galápagos Islands, with a focus on the preservation of environmental services.

Maria Alicia Becdach

As an academic, her research and teaching have focused on informal settlements and urban inequalities. She served for more than 10 years as a professor of Architecture and Urban Studies at Universidad de las Américas in Quito, Ecuador, and previously for 2 years at Universidad Tecnológica Equinoccial. She has also collaborated as a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN).
