The house is set in an idyllic natural environment, surrounded by trees and offering stunning views of Cotopaxi Volcano. Its rural location fosters a strong connection with nature, with cultivated fields and greenery extending throughout the surroundings.
To maximize solar exposure and respond to the local climate, the house was designed with an east–west orientation, allowing optimal sunlight throughout the day. This is particularly important in a region characterized by warm days and cold nights. In this way, the house absorbs and retains heat to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature at night, while ensuring efficient ventilation to prevent overheating.
The house was designed to meet the client’s needs on a single level, with a focus on functionality and comfort. The main bedroom, along with an adjacent study, is located on the ground floor to ensure accessibility and independence. The spatial organization is defined by harmonious and welcoming proportions, creating an intimate and livable environment. A central circulation axis articulates the layout, ensuring a clear and efficient connection between all areas of the house.
The design process aimed to create a space that reflects the client’s needs and experiences. The core idea was to understand and empathize with their daily routine, translating it into a home that fosters a strong sense of belonging. The house was conceived as a clear and versatile space, capable of accommodating furniture and memories accumulated over time, thus preserving a collective sense of identity.
The project stands out for its innovative volumetric design and butterfly-style roofs, conceived to optimize natural lighting and enhance interior clarity. This carefully planned configuration creates a sense of brightness and spaciousness, resulting in a warm, light-filled interior environment.
