BW House
Description
The project is located in a site defined by a dynamic landscape: Ilaló as the main landmark, its ravines as natural boundaries, and surrounding forests that inspire the creation of a house articulated through slender, lightweight cantilevered roofs that weave into the woodland context.
A composition of overlapping roofs at varying heights becomes the defining architectural gesture, moving away from the conventional cubic house and reinterpreting residential typology. The result is a dwelling where lightness, the passage of natural light, the presence of water, and the permeability of the surrounding nature become the most significant elements of the design.
The architectural concept is based on spatial lightness and transparency, integrating the house with its natural environment. A series of lightweight, cantilevered roofs fragment the volumes, creating a dynamic composition. The project is experienced through a sinuous promenade that reinforces the continuous relationship between the built form and the landscape, where nature becomes the protagonist of the visual and sensory experience.
The volumetric composition responds to residential typology through the fragmentation of volumes, articulated at different heights and defined by seven distinct types of linear, lightweight roofs that cantilever outward, both enclosing and defining the home. The roof, as a symbolic element, becomes the essence of the house. These roofs are suspended above a continuous glazed band, allowing natural light and ventilation to reach all interior spaces, generating a floating and lightweight architectural effect.
This fragmentation reflects the dynamic movement of the surrounding topography—mountains and ravines—translating it into built form. On the ground floor, the front façade is defined by an exposed concrete base that provides privacy from the street. This base is separated from the slab by a continuous glazed strip, establishing the visual language of lightness that defines the rest of the house.
The side and rear façades are composed of fully glazed volumes, supported by slender vertical elements. This transparency and permeability allow the surrounding natural landscape to fully penetrate the interior spaces. The material palette consists of exposed concrete, wood, glass, and metal.
