Mushuc Runa Stadium
Description
The stadium is part of the Mushuc Runa Cultural and Sports Complex, located in Tisaleo, Tungurahua Province, Ecuador, at an approximate altitude of 3,215 meters above sea level. The design integrates with the site’s topography, embedding itself into the mountain while respecting the natural environment. It incorporates elements of traditional Andean architecture, using the cultural concept of the poncho as formal inspiration.
TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTUREThe design of the complex draws from traditional architecture. Its architectural language engages in dialogue with the natural surroundings while respecting the existing topography. The stadium is conceived as an intercultural and sports space, where architecture reflects and reinforces local identity.
The design aims to:
• Reinterpret tradition through forms and textures that evoke the poncho
• Achieve landscape integration by using grass-covered slopes and natural gradients
• Promote sustainability through the use of local materials and appropriate drainage systems
