Turubamba
Description
Turubamba Sur is a cold territory characterized by consistent rainfall throughout the year, with soils of unstable geomorphology, ranging from steep to gentle slopes, and vulnerable to landslides and seismic risks.
The area is ecologically rich in waterways and ravines, which play a key role in the sustainable management and drainage of rainwater. The soils are also suitable for agricultural use.
The site’s topography creates natural rainwater ponds, where water gradually infiltrates into the existing aquifer or flows through the ravine system in southern Quito, eventually contributing to the Machángara River.
This ecologically fragile soil, along with the aquifer in southern Quito, is currently affected by the lack of adequate sanitation infrastructure in the PIT area and surrounding residential zones.
